About the Role

At HATCH, the Technical Designer plays an important role in bringing our thoughtfully designed pieces to life. This role helps ensure our garments meet the brand’s fit, quality, and construction standards from development through production. The Technical Designer manages tech packs, supports fit sessions, evaluates samples, and collaborates closely with design, product development, and vendor partners to ensure every style is production-ready and true to the HATCH vision.

What You’ll Do

Tech Packs:

  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs, including sketches, measurements, grading rules, and construction details in system.
  • Provide construction options to optimize patterns, cost, and production viability.

Sample Evaluation:

  • Measure, inspect, and evaluate prototypes (proto), fit samples, and Pre-Production Samples (PPS) to ensure they meet design specs.
  • Measure and evaluate TOPs in a timely manner to release production.

Fit Session Support:

  • Create and organize the weekly fit priorities based on seasonal calendar deliverables.
  • Participate in fittings, take detailed notes and photos, and assist in interpreting fit comments.
  • Provide technical feedback that will enhance the functionality of garments

Vendor Communication:

  • Request and track all fit samples to/from the office.
  • Organize all samples within the office
  • Communicate fit revisions, construction improvements, and technical issues to factories/vendors, both domestic and overseas.
  • Collaborate closely with vendor partners on fit, corrections, grading, and construction to ensure alignment through development and production.

Cross Functional Team Support:

  • Collaborate with design, product development and production teams to ensure design intent and quality standards have been met.
  • Participate in Return Feedback review sessions to troubleshoot potential fit issues and help execute the strategy for future fit improvements.
  • Manage deliverables against the time and action (T&A) calendar, ensuring deadlines are met across development and production milestones.

What You’ll Bring

  • Software Proficiency: Strong skills in Adobe Illustrator and Excel.
  • Prior experience working in a PLM system required.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of garment construction, patternmaking, fabric, and grading. Understanding of Maternity garments a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of flat patternmaking and experience working with pattern CAD tools preferred.
  • Experience in one or more product categories (e.g., denim, wovens, knits, or sweaters) preferred.
  • Communication & Organization: Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a high-volume environment.
  • Education/Experience: Generally, requires a degree in Fashion Design or a related field and 6+ months to 2 years of experience.

Actual starting pay for this role is determined by a wide array of factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, relevant skills, education, and geographic location.
